Travel by car
Don’t wait for a trip to the veterinarian to teach your dog how to travel politely in the car. Teach him to ride quietly in a crate, or use a special harness that can be attached to a seat belt to hold him in place.
WHY A DOG SHOULD NEVER TRAVEL LOOSE IN A CAR:
- If you get into an accident, he may be thrown around, injuring you as well as himself.
- After an accident, he may hold the police and paramedics at bay , or run out of the vehicle into traffic as the emergency personnel try to reach you.
- If he sees a distraction and suddenly barks in the driver’s ear, the driver may lose control.
- He may escape from the car through an open window and be lost in a strange area.
AND FINALLY:
- Never leave him alone in your car - may heat up in the sun to life-threatening levels, and if he’s loose, he may become bored and shred your seats!
- Don’t allow him to ride with his head out the window. This can cause an eye injury.
- Don’t allow him to ride in the back of a pickup truck, even if he is tied down.
